Unique Applications of Rustic Timbers

Interlink Limited has been supplying the New Zealand landscaping industry with recycled timber for over 10 years and in that time we have sold well over 100,000 railway sleepers and beams, with each weighing over 60 kg each, that’s around 6 million kg of wood!  That’s a lot of recycling!

We’re proud to play a part in the life cycle of trees that are sometimes many decades old, ensuring the timbers are re-used well.

What most people don’t realise is that the large variety of reclaimed timbers available means there really is a suitable sleeper for every project.  We stock timber from railway sleepers that are 2.1m in length right through to over 4m, and from old bridge beams that are up to 8m in length. From Australian Hardwoods, to US Oak, to European Hardwoods – all from reclaimed timbers.

As this finite supply dwindles, the growing scarcity and increased demand for these reclaimed timbers has seen a new trend emerge – where “Old is the New New”.

This is certainly understandable when seeing the appeal in such timbers as a 300mm x 300 mm x 6m rustic hardwood, natural or sandblasted. These beauties are scarce remnants of old buildings and structures, never to be manufactured ever again. Where the modern-day equivalents of steel and concrete simply pale in comparison and do not convey the underlying story, history and characteristic that rustic timbers will bring to a project.

And with our vast experience Interlink is well placed to offer expert advice on the subtleties of each and every piece of sustainably sourced timber we stock.

The uses for rustic timbers are equally varied from edging, steps and fencing to pergolas, bollards, and artworks.  Recycled timbers offer so much – not only are they kind on the planet their rustic attributes are interesting and aesthetically pleasing.
